## On the solution of an anisotropic nonquadratic potential

The Schrodinger-Green function is constructed for an anisotropic non-quadratic potential which has been studied in recent literature. The eigen energies and wavefunctions are readily obtained. Our analysis shows that the wavefunctions given in earlier literature are incorrect and the source of the error is pointed out. A semiclassical treatment of the problem is also presented in support of some of our observations.

## Underwater optical generation of sound: Oblique incidence

This paper addresses itself to the problem of thermoacoustic generation by an obliquely incident laser beam in a body of water. Far-field directivity pattern of thermoacoustic source (TS) has been studied analytically and numerically. Our study suggests the possibility of getting highly directional sound beams in a simple configuration.

## The X-ray intensity-hardness ratio relation in LMXRB

It is sometimes suggested that the change from the horizontal to the normal branch in the X-ray intensity-hardness ratio diagram of low mass X-ray binaries, is due to a change from a thin to a thick disk. It is shown here that wind from the hot thick disk depletes the amount of matter reaching the neutron star, thus causing the observed reduction of X-ray intensity as hardness ratio decreases in the normal branch.

## Rotational excitations of NH 4 + in (NH4) x K1−x I

We propose a gaussian model for the distribution of rotational tunneling lines which constitute the experimentally observed inelastic neutron scattering spectra in the range 0 to 0.6 meV from the mixed system (NH_{4})_{x}K_{1−x}I. The intensity profiles generated by this model are in remarkable agreement with the experimentally observed ones.

## Surface acoustic wave distribution and acousto-optic interaction in proton exchanged LiNbO3 waveguides

The efficiency of acoustooptic (AO) interaction in YZ-cut proton exchanged (PE) LiNbO_{3} waveguides is theoretically analysed by determining the overlap between the optical and acoustic field distributions. The present analysis takes into account the perturbed SAW field distribution due to the presence of the PE layer on the LiNbO_{3} substrate determined by the rigorous layered medium approach. The overlap is found to be significant upto very high acoustic frequencies of the order of 5 GHz, whereas in the earlier analysis by vonHelmolt and Schaffer [6] for diffused waveguides, it was shown that the overlap integral rolls down to nearly zero at this high frequency range.

## Construction of topological conformal field theories

In this lecture I review the construction of two dimensional Topologiccal Conformal Field Theories from*N*=2 superconformal theories. We show that a BRST structure emerges upon a twisting of the*N*=2 superconformal algebra. Moreover, the energy-momentum tensor of the twisted theory is BRST-exact and all the physical correlation functions are independeent of the two dimensional metric. We briefly mention several generalizations such as the construction of topological superconformal theories as well as the topological conformal theories on higher genus Riemann surfaces.
