## Fluoremetric studies of solutions of riboflavin and rhodamine-B

Absorption and fluorescence spectra and the relative quantum yields of fluorescence of riboflavin and rhodamine-B in various solvents were studied. The spectral shift in the fluorescence emission due to solvent effect is explained in terms of the universal solvent scale. The change in the quantum yield of fluorescence in different solvents is accounted for by the assumption that there is a shift in the relative positions of the lowest*ππ*^{+} and*ππ*^{*} singlet and triplet states of the molecule.

## Floating type wave functions in molecular pseudopotential calculations

Electronic structure, dissociation energy and equilibrium nuclear separation have been determined for the molecules CuH, AgH, AuH, ZnH^{+}, CdH^{+}, HgH^{+}, NaH, KH, RbH, CsH, MgH^{+}, CaH^{+}, SrH^{+}, BaH^{+} and RaH^{+} with the aid of the pseudopotential method. In such XH-type molecules two valence electrons are moving in the field of a proton and a positive ion X^{+}, the interaction energy of these valence electrons and the positive ion being taken into account by a Hellmann-type pseudopotential. As a first approximation, floating hydrogen-type 1s one-center wave functions are used to describe the closed-shell and open-shell molecular bonding functions.

## The nature of the singularity in the gravitational field of a charged particle

On physical grounds, it has been verified that the so called pseudo singularity in the exterior field of a charged particle is irremovable.

## On the trace of the product of Dirac matrices occurring asA′ =A iγi ′ +iA 5 ′

Several methods are given for evaluating the trace of the product of an arbitrary number of elements*A*_{r}^{′}
which involve Dirac matrices in the manner
$$A'_r = A'_{r_i \gamma _i } + iA'_{r_5 } $$
. Formulae for the determination of expressions of the type trace
$$\left( {\gamma _{i_1 } \gamma _{i_2 } ...\gamma _{i_p } A'_1 A'_2 ...A'_l } \right)$$
trace
$$\left( {\gamma _{i_1 } \gamma _{i_2 } ...\gamma _{i_p } B'_1 B'_2 ...B'_m } \right)$$
are obtained. The above problems with*γ*_{5} also occurring in the traces are dealt with, and some useful identities involving Dirac matrices are established.

## Angular correlation in187Re

The angular correlation coefficient of the 72–134 keV cascade of^{187}Re was measured to be*A*_{2}=−0.006 (2). This is an order of magnitude smaller than previous results.

## Correction of electron capture ratios measured by multi-wire proportional counter

The corrections of the measurement of electron capture ratios by the multi-wire counter are calculated using accurate, integrals and numerical methods of integration. The effects of the correction on the experimental*L/K* and*M/L* ratios are discussed.

## The Rôle of humus in the geochemical enrichment of u in coal and other bioliths

The author’s investigations established that the enrichment of U in peats, coals and other bioliths is caused by adsorption on the humic acid content of them. Adsorption isotherms have been measured and numerically evaluated. The adsorption itself is actually a cation exchange process. The enrichment factor of 1:10 000 agrees well with the quotient of the concentration of U in bioliths and natural waters.

## Relativistic corrections to the universal potential

Atomic one-electron energies were calculated with the aid of a universal potential. For solution of the radial Schrödinger equation*Noumerov*’s method was applied, while relatiovistic and spin-orbit coupling corrections were taken into account. The results are compared with experimental energy levels as well as with the results of other nonrelativistic and relativistic calculations.
